The experiment results

cutie

At first it started off horribly, I was shy to ask people as I was handing out candy and when I did a lot of the parents gave me this strange look. I did get two parents that said yes right away, one semi reluctantly. I can understand why for the most part. I shot their pictures and they came out okay. Then something strange happened, out of no where, I had people starting to inquire "How much are pictures?" It was nice to see their face light up when I said: "Free 4x6, just takes a minute to print". So before I knew it I had a line. Things were going semi smoothly, though one family wanted EVERYONE in the shot, the background (and my one light) was more geared twards 1, 2 or maybe 3 at the max, not 5! In the end though, I got some great shots, and saw the smiles on peoples faces both while being photographed and while getting their print. One girl even took the print looked at it and giggled and gave a thanks. Really made me feel good, like I was doing some sort of good. I also had two inquires for shooting christmas pictures, family portraits and met a couple that was into video editing and web design. All in all, though no orders yet, I would consider it at least a marketing success.

What a fantastic idea to get your name out! I'm glad it was a success.

Too cool! I can see why parents might give you a funny look when you first asked them, ("want some candy little boy?"), but man, EVERYBODY wants pictures of their children. Sometimes it can be a hard sell, but it's worth it. I think you might be able to turn this into a going concern, if that's what you're after. Do good work at a fair price and word will spread. Parents talk to each other, (as I'm sure you know) and we compare notes. Carry on! Pax, N.

too kewl, Shane. That was a very unique HW gift and a fantastic way of getting your name out. When we finally make it back to LC for a visit, I know we'd like to have our pictures done.

Here, I am soliciting you.. will you photograph my baby after she has arrived? Beautiful photograph and great idea, my friend.

I will be happy to shoot the kiddo! And ya Will let me know when you guys are here, would be great to not only see you again but photograph as well. And ya I did feel a little "want some candy?" when the parents gave me the strange looks, but the ones who went through it were really receptive!! It was a great fun experience!

but the more important question, at this point is, did ya get any clients?? still a great idea, i thought.
