Damn I hate it when reality tv grabs me, its like the creators of VH1's "The Shot" really were talking to just me. The premise as far as I can tell is that there is a group of photographers that are vying for a chance to get a spread in magazines and a $100k grant. Wow. So far, their first challenge was to tell a story with the theme passion. They had two nude models and quickly had to shoot to tell a story of passion, something that was not pornographic and palatable for commercial use. I am curious what anyone with even the remotest of photographic eyes would of done? I instantly had a shot idea in mind...If I hear some ideas in comments ill post my setup for the shot. So far I am really digging the show.
I'm sorry I missed it. I just cannot take a reality show seriously...no matter how "serious" the premise. As far as ideas I have a few...one of which was a shoot you did with me a year ago. But alas, I believe those shots are gone.
I had no idea VH1 was broadcasting such a show. I don't know if the nude models were of the same gender, but an Adam and Eve scene comes to mind (although that's not very original). The only other shot would involve a couple in a bathroom responding to the results of a positive self pregnancy test. The nudity reinforces the idea of vulnerability that such a revelation can bring.
I don't necessarily think that Adam and Eve evoke passion. On the contrary, if anything, they would denote quite the opposite. Why do we always have to turn to nudity? Couldn't it be passion about food? art? photography itself? Perhaps a self-reflexive piece?
I've been waiting for the show. I was curious about the process, even though I'll never be that sort of photographer. While I was watching, I was thinking some of the same critiques that the judges voiced. And Piper? I could NOT deal with someone acting like that when I was trying to shoot.
I have to disagree about Adam and Eve not evoking passion. You may be referring to how most churches (or church goers) are viewed. I think Adam and Eve would have been the most passionate people on the earth. No clothes, no sin, and no other competition or distractions. I would imagine that they had a great deal of passion for each other which is not usually explored due to Puritan views about religion.
Oh my god, Piper would of gotten a 200mm lens up her posterior right quick. She needed to shut up, she was nuts. And i think the reason it had nudity was cause well, sex sells...its vh1, so there you go.
